A Family that Hunts Together...

The day was hot, hotter than most over the jungles of Na’ring. But that was fine, ikran liked it to be hot outside, heat meant bigger and better thermals to ride. And because the ikran were happy, their Na’vi was happy, Jai included. Ata soared higher than he ever had; an occasional squawk of pleasure came from the deep purple beast. A slight grin tugged at Jai’s lips, he felt Ata prepare to call again. His chest expanded slightly as a deep breath filled his lungs, just as Ata cawed out Jai held his head back and shouted with his ikran, the pair howled to the mid-day sun.

A little chuckle came from the warrior as he peered to behind him, where his siblings should be flying. Once he was sure they were near and that there wasn’t anything else in the sky but them, Jai’s eyes turned down towards the jungle. They couldn’t go back to Hometree empty handed. Various beasts moved about the forest’s floor, but none were ready, females and young mostly. Jai flat out refused to bring them to harm. He made a couple hand signals to his siblings before his right arm gestured to a large, magnificent tree to his right. A couple yips later and Ata had banked right towards the tree.

The ikran squawked as it spun into a dive headed right for a large branch. Ata’s wings flapped some dead leaves off the branch he landed on. Jai reached down and patted his partner’s neck, a couple words of encouragement slipped from him before he looked up to see his siblings land.

“The jungle is not being kind to us today… But the day is young yet. I have gone over my usual territory, Raiko, Liyani, know of anywhere else?”

As Jai awaited a response he sat up, Ata shifted his weight to better compensate the Na’vi. Even when he was with Liyani and Rai, it still felt like someone was missing among them. He knew it to be their brother, but it would still take years for Jai to get used to the absence. His golden eyes turned to the sun, it still sat high in the sky, maybe six hours left of sunlight by Jai’s guess. The warrior hoped his siblings knew of other hunting grounds that he didn’t…

A small grin spread the large vestibules of flesh that guarded Raiko's mouth thin as he swept his gaze over millions of acres of jungle. The view from the forest floor was beautiful, yes, but nothing could possibly beat the aerial view from the back of one's Ikran. The beast that could best be described as massive powered through the air, not an incredible distance away from his siblings. Thankfully, the man had albeit forgotten the irritated words that his grandmother told him just a day before... thanks to his sister. She'd always been able to pull him back together, even

It was a hot day indeed, and the terran tiger colored creature was simply abuzz with excitement. A chirp of excitement could be heard flowing out of the air holes in his chest from time to time. "Calm, tsmukan," he whispered at a near inaudible level, though the Ikran didn't need to hear Rai's words to know what he said. Rai reached down and stroked his brother's dull orange neck, yet again whispering, "you will have the whole day to fly about the winds, don't tire yourself out." Fortunately, it seemed that the large creature calmed down visibly... it was obviously that he agreed.

A small nod bobbed his chin down once at Jai's words. Indeed, Eywa had not seen fit to show them suitable quarry just yet... but that should soon change. He glanced those yellow eyes downward towards the ground, the very same ground that he knew like the back of his hand. "I don't know. Can't see much from up here," he said just as Lan dove to the canopy, as if on a mere implied whim. Once again, those yellow eyes shifted down to what could be seen of the forest floor.

Still nothing. It seemed that the main Yerik herd had moved elsewhere. By the looks of the few bits of evidence he could see - perturbed ferns, eaten leaves, and piles of droppings - it looked as if they'd moved to the west. With a long sigh and the over-pronounced shake of his head up at his two siblings, he gave his answer to Jai's question: No.

Liyani was in her own little world now they were in the sky. She didn’t hunt this way and her trappings had been brought back already…this was just for fun and to help her poor brothers with their tasks. Okay, it was nice to spend time with them too, she supposed. A snicker escaped her and Tìrol purred out tremulous ‘chuckle’ of his own. His eyes were half lidded, appearing as if he were about ready to fall asleep on the wind…that was just how content and relaxed he was. Comparable in size to Lan, the richly colored male eyed Ata who flew ahead of him, trilling out a warning as the other male’s tail fins came a bit too close to slapping him in the face. The happy calls of the other ikran made her chuckle again…their excitement lost on her. It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy flying…not that at all…but rather, she had gotten out most of her giddy energy early in the morning and now she was just relaxed. Her mood shown through into Tìrol, the already generally calm and relaxed male only seeming to relax further.

Rurok’s question had her ears perking up slightly. ‘Any better places to hunt?’ she mused, silently, one brow raised,‘yes, tsmukan…the ground.’ Those bioluminescent lights along her skin shimmered an amused green as she took the breath to reply thusly to him…fortunately Rai beat her too it as she saw his motion toward the ground, his words following soon after as he dove toward the canopy. Finally one of them had the sense to go to the ground! Tìrol followed hot on the tail of Lan, his wings folding closer to his body, allowing him to catch up to his orange brother fairly easily. Both rider and ikran were puzzled, however, as they started gliding just above the canopy. Golden eyes rolled slightly, Liyani's annoyance echoed by a low growl from the peacock colored male, a huff of air from him warming her feet further. Finally she spoke up.

The only way to catch anything is by being on the ground. One cannot follow trails easily in the sky and catching the creature itself MUST be done on the ground…There is no point in us being up here in the air. There will be Yerik here, tsmukan Rai, Rurok…they are simply hiding. Besides, we may find Tapirus down there.

Liyani paused for a moment, thinking swiftly. There WAS larger prey they could hunt now they were together…With three ikran they might be able to carry home a sturmbeest. A small one at any rate.

If you wish to hunt larger prey we need to go toward the grasslands and find talioang. With Tìrol, Lan and Ata we could carry home a small one…

With a light sigh she ran her hands along the neck of Tìrol, enjoying the smooth, yet leathery, feel of his glossy skin. She didn’t like the idea of hunting sturmbeest, they were large and difficult to kill, but she had a sinking feeling that’s exactly the kind of thing her brothers might go for. ’They must always do things the most difficult way…’she complained to Tìrol through their link. His sides and throat vibrated with another purring laugh. It seemed he agreed.
