The year is 2186. It has been thirty two years since humanity was driven from Pandora, one of fourteen moons that orbit the gas giant Polyphemus. In the three decades that have passed since that final, tragic battle, many of the physical wounds left by the RDA have begun to heal. Trees are growing, the land is knitting together. Life is once more overtaking the death brought by human kind.
The mental and emotional scars left behind in the Na'vi, however, are not so quick to mend.
Which was why, when humanity returned to Pandora, they were quick to defend their home. Though the tribes had scattered again, none could forget the travesties inflicted by man during his first visit, and all were eager to keep it from happening again. These humans, however, were not like their predecessors. They were scientists, doctors, interested only in studying the life on Pandora, observing without harm the distinctly unique ecosystem.
Many of the tribes wished them driven out. Nothing good could come of their presence. But others... adapted. So long as the humans maintained a peaceful relationship with the planet, with Eywa, so long as their numbers did not swell and threaten to spill once again into the forests and across the plains, seeking only to hurt for their own gain...
And thus far, relations have been decent. Perhaps not friendly, but peacefully neutral. The scientists continue their work, some with the aid of their avatars, a genetic blend of human and Na'vi that allows them to travel the lands of Pandora without fear of its toxic atmosphere. The compound they have established at the edge of the forest is unobtrusive, allowing them to live comfortably with minimal disturbance of the natural ecosystem. Among their closest neighboring clans, the consensus of their presence is varied:
The Alehuai of the seas, with their ships and spears, want them gone. Nothing good came of humanity in the past; what has changed now? Were the humans and their compound closer, the clan might wage war to rid Pandora of their taint, but there is land to be crossed, plains occupied by another clan of Na'vi.
This clan is the Itami, nomadic wanderers who follow their herds across vast plains. Their travels often take them far away from the humans, but also bring them within a few miles of the compound. Relations are wary; neither side has shown hostility, but neither have there been any attempts at friendship.
The forest dwelling Aylukana are, perhaps, on the best terms with the humans. They are not friendly, per se, but the avatars can pass through the forest unmolested, and a few of the bolder Aylukana clan members have wandered into the compound yard on occasion without ill result. Here, perhaps, is the greatest chance of peace between the two races.
High in their mountain fastness, the Rokure do not seem to care one way or the other about these weak little humans. They cannot be reached, for the humans did not bring with them their flying metal birds, and gaining access to their aerie by foot is all but impossible. So long as the humans do not harass them, the Rokure Na'vi will not harass the humans, though their indifference might yet prove to be one of their greatest weaknesses...
Which are you? Are you one of the daring scientists come back to Pandora? Are you an avatar, roaming the pristine wilderness, in awe of the sheer magnitude of nature here? Or perhaps you are Na'vi, peaceful or violent, coexisting with humans or intent on driving them away for a second time. The choice is yours.
Choose wisely.
