Name:
Tok’solu, but he strongly prefers Tox
Age:
Twenty-four
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Race:
Na’vi
Tribe:
Rokure
Mount:
Kea is a female Ikran with a penchant for tomfoolery. She isn’t the most intelligent animal, although her looks, in Tox’s opinion, make up for it. Kea is deep aquamarine in pallor, with her eyes a slightly darker shade of teal, and she is very sleek and elegant. She has a fourteen-foot wingspan. She mostly relies on manoeuvrability rather than speed or strength, which suits Tox just fine since she can usually get a Toruk spinning in circles trying to catch up to her. Kea is goofy and light-hearted, often there to playfully snap and poke Tox out of a dark or repressive mood whether he likes it or not.
Physical Description:
Tox, despite being under the impression that he is the strongest Na’vi on Pandora, is rather average in male physique. He stands at just a little over ten feet in height, and is slender in frame, although his muscles are wiry rather than bulky since Tox does little combat training. He’s lithe with gently defined muscles, and his overall body shape is elegant, with a lengthy torso and long legs. He wears his deep indigo hair long and neatly kept, and either lets it hang around his shoulders or ties it back into a ponytail. Tox’s body is a swirl of tattoos inked in dark shades like black, indigo, and crimson, which glow radiantly against his light cyan skin. Astronomical signs like crescent moons and starbursts cover the left half of his chest and arms, while his back is littered with tribal patterns and designs. He has no piercings.
Tox isn’t a stunning beauty, contrary to what he thinks, but his face does deserve to be called handsome. It has sharp features even for a Na’vi, with a pointed nose and chin, high, prominent cheekbones, a square jaw, and a tall, arched forehead. His eyes are his best features, large and deep amber in colour. His lips are full and slightly upturned like all Na’vi. Besides the typical bioluminescent ‘freckles’, the only marking marring Tox’s face is a tattoo of a deep blue crescent moon that covers his left eye.
Clothing-wise, Tox doesn’t wear much, both because it affects his movement and because he much prefers to show off his body. When at formal gatherings or events, he applies body paint to indicate him as a full, though not high-ranking member of his clan. The clothing he wears for such things is usually colourful and intricately woven, and the materials range from beads to plant fibres to shells. Tox’s casual outfits are the treated skins of animals fashioned into loincloths. His weapons are usually ranged, since Tox never had any particular skill in close combat, and he mostly relies on the poison-tipped arrows of the Na’vi or throwing spears for self-defence.
Personality:
Tox is the standard hot-headed youth one would expect of someone as young as he is. A born-and-bred cynic, he often finds himself close to madness stuck in the Hallelujah Mountains of the Rokure tribe. He has a wry, irreverent sense of humour, although often finds himself exasperated at the amount of bad luck he runs into. He sees the bad side of everything, but rather than moping about it he just accepts it as part of life. He’s undeniably arrogant, and very self-centered. He’s also bored, unsatisfied with his position as a scout and gatherer of the tribe, as well as keeping his Ikran flying and alive.
Tox’s biggest flaw is his ego, which is about as inflated as a blimp. He’s convinced he has no weaknesses, believing himself to be the smartest, strongest, best-looking, and only sane Na’vi in his tribe. He’s also particularly interested in every single female he sets his eyes on. Tox can be a little superficial, judging a woman by her looks rather than what she’s good at, and has been unable to even begin to choose which one to pick as a mate. Tox doesn’t find the dreamwalkers at all bad-looking either. The Sky People as a whole fascinate him- they’re something new and fresh as opposed to the usual drab of his ordinary life. Though Tox grew up hearing the tales of their evils, he has a certain need-to-see-it-to-believe-it attitude. Eywa has healed most of the damage they did to Pandora, and none of the dreamwalkers he’s spied on seem evil. Tox does find them unintelligent, however, as well as irrational, but they still intrigue him.
Tox thinks he’s a lot smarter than the rest of his tribe, and so looks down on his fellows in a way, but is still caring towards them. Though his dripping sarcasm and upstart nature often lands him in trouble, he does have a fairly good relationship with the rest of the Rokure. Tox does find the closeness and affection a little tiresome, though, so he’ll often fly out on Kea on gathering missions to escape the social clamour. His relationship with Eywa is also very deep, as he often listens to her to sense if the Sky People are doing any damage, as well as for guidance.
Talents:
Flying- Tox’s lack of combat training is made up for by his agility when it comes to flying. Kea isn’t the most composed Ikran, and is easily distracted, so Tox has more often than not gone looking for her just to find her plunging headfirst towards a rock wall because she saw something shiny. Tox takes to the air with as much confidence as any Ikran, and eight years of practicing maneuvers has made him very skilled.
Orientation- Tox has spent long days flying over or trekking across Pandora on gathering or scouting missions, and he now has a detailed mental map ranging from the Rokure’s mountains to the seas of the Alehuai. He knows which plants and animals can be found and where, and can find his way out of the deepest jungles using a variety of different elements like the stars, the foliage, and Eywa herself.
Tracking- Tox is a very observant person, and has a sharp eye for physical elements. He’s used this talent to his advantage for creeping up on animals, or, more recently, the dreamwalkers. Having trained at the art from an early age, Tox can use indicators like footprints, shattered branches, old scents clinging to the air, or even Eywa to follow a particular animal or person long after they’ve left the area.
History:
Tox’s parents Ranee and Lujon were victims of the Sky People’s technology even after they themselves had left. Lujon’s curiosity caused him to wander into the old base of operations, where he came into contact with several chemicals. The toxins didn’t noticeably affect him until later, when he returned to Ranee and their newborn son, and he spread the chemicals to both of them. The healers of the tribe isolated the family, and, when their poultices and salves failed to work, took them to the Tree of Souls to pray to Eywa to save their lives. She deigned that it was Ranee and Lujon’s time, but spared Tox. His parents were buried, and the child was raised in turns by different Na’vi of the tribe.
Born eight years after the initial Pandora conflict, Tox never saw the cruelty of the Sky People except in abandoned ruins and the stories of the older Na’vi. Therefore, he never harboured any particular hatred against them, even for the death of his parents, whom he never knew. Tox was weak as a small child from the after-effects of the chemicals. When he started to grow, he strengthened, but he was slower than the others for several years. Often, he was subject to being picked on by the other children for his weakness, and so he became shy. He threw himself at duties that would take him away from the tribe and his bothersome peers.
One of the first things Tox learned was tracking. He and a few other children accompanied several trackers on their hunts on several occasions, sometimes going away for weeks on end. Tox learned survival strategies, how to differentiate markings made by different animals, and how to bring down prey. The group also passed by human remains on several occasions, which was where Tox picked up on his fascination of the Sky People. They were something mysterious and foreign, and he was eager to study the ruins, although he kept a safe distance away from the old base of operations. Over the years, Tox grew up in a similar manner to the other children of the Rokure, bar his shyness and his curiosity of the Sky People.
When Tox was sixteen, he underwent the ritual of becoming a full member of the tribe. He and the other inductees climbed to an Ikran nesting site, which was where Tox first met Kea. They traded loud bellowing and shows of power before Tox could get close enough to bond with her, and they took flight for the first time. Flying along the mountains immediately became a passion for Tox, and he passed the test to become part of the tribe.
Tox grew emotionally when he became a full member, abandoning his shyness to his childhood. However, he still remained prone to distancing himself from the tribe, so he took on duties that often had him away from the Rokure for several days on end, namely scouting, gathering, and hunting. However, at the urging of the leaders to take on a social responsibility, he also became a caretaker for the older children of the tribe.
When the Sky People appeared again two years later, Tox was excited. Despite his eagerness to see them, though, he was not allowed in the negotiations because he was so young. And so, he did not see one of their kind or a dreamwalker until about five years later, when the negotiations were concluded and the Sky People began to arrive in their aerial vessels. Tox has since taken every possible opportunity to seek out the dreamwalkers.
