Name:
Laioni
Age:
Nineteen
Gender:
Female
Sexuality:
Bisexual
Race:
Na’vi
Tribe:
Alehuai
Mount:
Meda is a male Ikran with the characteristics of a puppy dog. He is eternally loyal and loving to his bonded Na’vi, and enjoys, much to Laioni’s displeasure, showing his love by regularly raining down gifts of small dead animals. However, Meda’s charming qualities aren’t immediately noticeable- he looks anything but friendly, with a 15-foot wingspan and a penchant for biting. He’s a light, dusty brown in colour, with darker brown eyes. Though not the stealthy type, Meda easily blends in with the dirt of the sea cliffs, making him useful in avoiding Toruk attacks and surprise-jumping his and Laioni's prey.
Physical Description:
Laioni is a tall female, standing just underneath ten feet in height, although seems taller because she’s so skinny. She has the very slim frame that all female Na’vi possess, and breasts and hips of average size- but she somewhat lacks the intense musculature that defines most of her species, making her seem rather frail in comparison, which betrays her physical abilities. Her face is something she is proud of, being exotically attractive- it’s long and oval-shaped, with angular honey-golden eyes that are so deep they’re nearly brown. She has the large, flat nose of her people, full lips, and arched dark eyebrows. Laioni’s hair and queue are a few shades lighter than black, being a deep chocolate brown, and her skin is the typical cyan pallor of her race. Laioni’s face also has very high, definitive bone structure that makes her look older than she really is.
Laioni’s face is covered with the bioluminescent, mood-indicating ‘freckles’ of the Na’vi, but otherwise her face is clear of any markings. However, she does have a simple tattoo of a coiling serpent-like creature with its tail in its mouth done in dark indigo ink that covers her back, and a chain of colourful flowers on her left forearm. Clothing-wise, Laioni pays little attention to her appearance, normally using skimpy meshes to cover her breasts and hips.
Personality:
Despite her youth, Laioni is extremely cynical and practical. She always looks on the darker side of things, and assumes that the worst will come to pass. She strongly dislikes the human race- though she wasn’t around for the first failed mission to Pandora, Laioni has seen the destruction they wrought on the land and in the eyes of the older members of her clan. She is very in-tune with nature, like all Na’vi, and prefers the company of the moon’s animals and plants, as well as Eywa, to consorting with other Na’vi. Laioni likes the quiet, and the intense socializing and chattering of the tribe irritates her. This was also prevalent in Laioni’s personality as a child, and considered strange to the other members of the tribe, but Laioni shrugged their comforts off.
Laioni has noticed that humans are similar in many ways to the Na’vi, both physically and mentally, and despite her misgivings, is curious about them. Their unbridled desires and greed amuse her, and Laioni never misses a chance to spy on one of their avatars, or, if she’s close enough, on the compound itself. She’s somewhat willing to give the poor, ugly, unintelligent creatures a chance, and will not attack one if it approaches her.
Laioni strongly appreciates power and survival of the fittest, admiring the more chaotic side of nature. She isn’t one to believe in flowery compassion and love, and tends to dislike people who follow such things. As well, Na’vi of the tribe who profess their love for her are generally avoided. In this way, humankind’s destructiveness fascinates Laioni. However, she doesn’t understand their mercy for those weaker than they are, such as letting their blind, their deaf, and their mute live. Laioni is unforgiving when faced with weakness, and will not consort with ‘weak’ people.
Talents:
Stealth- Though years of loneliness in the wilderness have badly affected Laioni’s social skills, she has become more than adept at silent and unseen movement. She becomes one with nature when moving through wilderness, blending in with her natural surroundings, and can successfully sneak up on anything from an avatar to a viperwolf.
Botany- Laioni has an extensive knowledge of the plant life found on Pandora, and can fashion anything from plant weaves to strong medicine to excruciatingly painful poisons. Laioni uses this skill in healing her fellow clan members, setting traps for prey, making her own clothes, and creating colourful inks for tattooing.
Marksmanship- Laioni is an accomplished marksman, preferring to use simple bows and arrows when hunting, or sometimes longer throwing spears. Besides that, her knowledge of botany also gives her a wide variety of poisons to dip her arrowheads into.
History:
Laioni’s inherent distrust of humans comes from her mother, Nirrti, whose first mate Iakopa was killed in the clash with the RDA thirty-two years ago. She grieved for him even after taking her second mate, Kaleo, who fathered Laioni. Nirrti mostly took Kaleo as her mate out of a desire to have a daughter, and not because she truly loved him. Even when he was killed by a palulukan several months after Laioni’s birth, she did not grieve for long. Nirrti became cynical from Iakopa’s death, and often chose to distance herself from the clan with Laioni, whom she planned to teach the evils of the Sky People.
Laioni was mostly raised by her mother outside the tribe, becoming one with the animals and the plants before the Na’vi. Nirrti told Laioni stories of the Sky People and of the terror they’d brought, even venturing away from the clan several times to show her signs of where they’d been. Abandoned mines, graves for those Na’vi who’d died in the battle to drive them out, and the ruins of the compound. These stories and sights terrified Laioni, especially since Nirrti was sure that the Sky People would return once again.
Whenever with the clan, Laioni mostly helped her mother, who was tasked with weaving, and rarely played with Na’vi her own age. She preferred the quiet of nature to the shrieks and screams of playing children, and was also generally shy as a child. And Laioni, having no father figure to look up to, was also distanced from the males of her clan, and generally disregarded them as she grew older, disapproving of their egos and violence. Nirrti also taught Laioni to show no weakness- weakness, she said, was what had invited the Sky People to take over Pandora in the first place, and she furiously beat Laioni whenever she wept or performed a task poorly.
When Laioni was fourteen, strange vehicles appeared in the sky over Pandora, and then the Aylukana clan sent word that the Sky People had returned again. Nirrti was extremely prevalent in the first two years of the negotiations, speaking on behalf of the Na’vi. When Laioni was sixteen, it became apparent that the Sky People were truly returning whether the Na’vi liked it or not, which infuriated Nirrti. In her hatred of humankind, she murdered several of the negotiators and was then killed herself by gunshots, provoking violent in-fighting between the two species and setting the negotiations back a pace.
This happened shortly before Laioni’s coming-of-age ceremony, and she was shocked and bereaved enough to fail it entirely, nearly losing a limb to the Ikran. Due to her loss, however, the Tsahik allowed her to try again the next year. However, Nirrti was the only close person Laioni had, and she spent the next two years distancing herself from her clan, and didn’t bother to show up for her ceremony when she was seventeen. However, at age eighteen, it was decided that the Sky People would be allowed to settle on Pandora once again. Enraged, Laioni decided she had to do something about them.
She went through the ceremony of becoming a woman two years late, and managed to snag an Ikran this time, a furious brown male who bit and screamed and then licked when she asserted her dominance. He was the brutish type, which Laioni figured was a nice match for her own stealthy nature. She named the Ikran Meda, and passed the ceremony with flying colours. Laioni’s skills in botany gave her a place as a healer and weaver of the tribe. Then, she focussed on the humans. Though she didn’t outright approach any, she often travelled to the lands they frequented on Meda and watched them from a distance. She is still trying to decide whether they are worth killing or not.
