Name: Vincent “Cheshire” Fernández
"Cheshire" being a nickname gained from his smile; mostly used when amused or showing 'benevolence' towards a person. He also tends to speak in riddles, or 'mind-fuckery' as it is sometimes called. When he's being sly or timid, it tends to be one of he first things an individual sees. A very--disturbingly large smirk.
Age: 32
Secret Word: (4th Application; already sent)
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Selectively bisexual, although he is not at all open about it. His orientation is personal, and even though he acts Asexual or oblivious to advances from individuals; he prefers it that way to actually having serious relationships with opposing persons.
Race: Human
Occupation: Head of Genetics/Avatar Creation; also an occasional aid on the Botany/Botanist Team.
Human Physical Description: Coming from a distinct Latino-Romanian background, Vincent hosts the natural light mocha skin; mirrored by dark brown eyes. While he is an avid shaver, he always tends to have some dark scruff on his chin. With a broad, but slim jaw line; his body mimics a sort of tenderness as well as intimidation. Taking the attention from his overall facial structure, Vincent’s eyes tend to take a life of their own. He has a specific shade of hazel, mixed with darker charcoal hues around the iris; frequent mood change can be depicted through the change in his pupil-dilates and distinct iris shift. While his facial structure can stay apathetic, those that can look into Vincent’s eyes will find distinct trove of riches; and are probably far better off at detecting the Scientist’s occasional mood-swings.
Vincent’s hair reaches the mid-point of his neck, naturally straight and curled at the ends. One of his more ritualistic habits is to simply slick his hair back, or even tie it up in a ponytail. While it tends to fall in two opposite bangs framing his face; the left side has a distinct thicker layer of hair. Although his skin is of light mocha shade, his hair is ten times darker. Almost reaching the blend of dark black and burnt hazel, this hair tends to decorate his arms and slight upper torso. Although he rarely works out; the male has a very sharp, distinct collarbone and strong triceps. His shoulders are slanted, evenly curved as they fit his slimmer torso. His lower abdominals are svelte, but not void of muscle. He is distinctly a man of science, but his body shows rough calluses that have evolved throughout the hard work of his past.
Light discolorations of the skin on his upper waist and right-hand thigh are actually faded burn-marks and accompanied scars. They are old, and of course have been treated; only those intimate with him tend to know about the past wounds his body has endured. After all, it documents what he had never dared to put into his records. Vincent’s body is one of petite size, as he only reaches about 5’9” in stature. He however has a far more matured face and bodily structure, as his legs are finely muscled but a bit taunt.
While it is proper to wear some more durable fabrics on Pandora; Vincent beats the odds by wearing any normal collared shirt with his attire. Rarely does he have the courtesy to slide on a tie or dress pants with his white lab coat trench. With the collared shirt, it is more then common to spy the man with simplistic jeans and khaki pants. His interactions with the outside world within Pandora are limited—unless he is in his Avatar.
Avatar Physical Description:
While in an Avatar body, Vincent is still short in stature. He is below the average in Na’vi height, but not enough so that it is too uncommon for Mother Nature. However, on his slim facial structure there is the same 5’oclock shadow that is visible on his human body. The same overall shape is still there, while his eyes are darker in contrast to the bright gold in most native Na’vi. His hair is much longer, as expected in order to obtain the queue; it also curls slightly around his face and ends. Keeping the texture of his natural human hair, as it tends to be a dark shaded black as opposed to any tinted color given to naturally born Na’vi of different regions and genetics. He has not really styled it, but on past occasions he did fiddle with his own queue for scientific means. Because of this, his queue is much more sensitive and he ultimately refuses to use it to make the ‘bond.’
His body is that of any Na’vi, his torso is elongated and paler then the natural color of his upper skin. A soft sapphire at best, with a creamy mid-waist; his stripes are darker, blended into his skin a lot more smoothly then his actual native ‘friends,’ thus making him look rather different. The dots of bioluminescence on his skin are few, which is also rather rare. He tends to be stealthier in the night because of this, and does most of his sample collecting under the veil of darkness. His skin, when alight with the essence tends to be complex and hard to decipher; mimicking his slyness as both human and Na’vi. Vincent normally keeps a straight face, true to his human roots.
His tail and queue are of equal length. Reaching about six feet each, possibly shy of a few inches to natural length. While his feet and hands are small, they are good for both stealth and speed. He is distinctly noticeable as an Avatar—and not just because of his five fingers, either.
Personality:
▪ FURIOUS/”MAD” unrestrained and unbridled. Something as feral as a caged beast, pacing back and forth--awaiting its chance to be released. It is a given that Vincent would be frustrated and angry, but it is never intense enough to show anything more then minor agitation. It is when he is pushed over the rind that most should expect all hell to break loose. Vincent is, by far, one of the most violent beings that this world will ever have to offer. It is through his ferocious dictations that he surfaces as the true disturbed genius he is acclaimed to be. Going as far as to plan complex ways to betray others, or violently verbally assault them in such ways that it leaves the victim feeling internally dead. The need to push his pain and gruesome aura on others is thick, but only unleashed in the most desperate or tense of times.
▪ LAID-BACK is probably something you would have not expected from Vincent. Nether the less, he is rather known for flipping to either side of the coin; even becoming remotely indifferent about what is going on around him. Pleasing himself comes first. Even if that includes him reading a good book, taking a bath, watching a play, or destroying the self-esteem a dozen innocent scientists for his own entertainment; it is all tilted towards the same goal. Pleasure. Easing his way into people's line of sight seems to be easiest when you are not blowing off steam. It took Vincent some time to actually come to light with that, but he seems to come off rather apathetic now. The more aloof and careless he is; the more men and women seem to trust him. Then again, something delightfully sinful as pleasing yourself before everyone else seems so--characteristic of such a successful genius. Vincent cannot help but smile easily when in one of his moods, and can be seen as a flipped coin or wearing a façade, depending on surrounding circumstances.
▪ INTELLIGENCE is something that naturally seems infused within the core of his cranium. As lazy and playful as he seems at times, there is a good chance he is plotting something within his complex web of mind. He is tactical by trade, and stealth can come in both physical form and within words. To be naturally cautious of what he says, or alludes to; he is but one mighty force to be reckoned with. Observation and calculations come second, watching your enemies and allies as intently as possible; filing out their weaknesses and strengths. Small hints that one can leave behind in the simple actions that they do seem so innocent, but can be easily contorted into a dagger that Vincent can use to backstab them with. It is the smaller things that eventually grow to unlock secrets from deep within, and Vincent enjoys believing that he is the only man that can filter them out. Using them to his advantage when the time is right comes later.
▪ INSANITY is once again, not a surprising adjective in this case. Vincent has quite the issue when it comes to being mentally balanced. As stated before, the man flips from one extreme to the next. Duel personalities seem to be fond of plaguing him; as one second he could be completely calm and lounging---the next, tearing off some innocent man's throat. It is all a matter of how he feels, or which split personality is in dominant control. There seems to be no middle ground, or if there is--Vincent has yet to find it and keep it steady. His eyes flicker from calm mischievous, to fury; to the next emotion that might not have anything to do with either of the prior. The only warning sign that people (or Na’vi) usually get before shit hits the fan is the change in his gaze. Throughout his time at Lab, Vincent has been more in the blue then in the red. But that does not mean that the man is any more stable then he was decades ago. He tends to love his lab, and only that; his deterioration of communication reflects that unhealthy obsession.
▪ HUMOR (Sadistic&Benevolent) seems like an odd trait to have, but he does own it. Vincent tends to smile easily, and is amused at simple things; thus gaining him the tolerable nickname of ‘Cheshire’. There are times he refrains from speaking, simply because another being amuses him so damn much. He tends to be both cruel and tender in his laughter; going as far as to be sadistic--or even joyous. Humor can be pointed at another's pain or failure; a simple way to show malice. Yet it can also be innocent, as if he is joking with coworkers among the coffee machine in an office. Vincent enjoys either extreme. Taunting and nudging his ‘prey’ has always been a favorite past time, but he also seems to relish the attention and amusement he can get from flirting (very rarely) and playing with others. A learning tool, he has grown to dub it. You don't make many friends without having a good sense of what is humorous and what isn't.
▪ PROTECTIVE Vincent, sadly, does not play well with others. He dislikes sharing, especially lovers and friends. He takes no one’s shit, and he expects he doesn't ever get the sympathy from some other individual. With that out of the way, he does prefer open minded people when it comes to bedding and romance; both males and females. He sometimes downright refuses to share anyone that he has, although he does normally cut all ties with those he beds; burning their relationship beyond recognition. It is his own personal way to make sure he never has to share his body or have his emotions at stake for science. It is extremely rare that he stays with his lovers or friends, but it does happen. There are still some walking around today, but are probably quite apathetic from spending the night with him only to be rejected in the morning--.
Vincent is always, though, forever attached to the friends and loves he does allow within; going as far as to protect their honor and threaten any one that might harm those that were once close to him with death.
Talents:
- Corruption, manipulation in the use of words, body, and mental toying.
- Instincts tend to be quite the powerful aid when it comes to surviving in this world. With borderline control, he more or less allows such things to guide his reactions and reasoning. So far, it seems to work rather well.
- Mental insanity, as one could say—could be seen as a weakness, but Vincent would have to disagree. The man uses his mental strife as an alternative source of fuel; letting it run rampant in order to unleash the raw power, hisgenius that is embedded deep within.
- Putting on a façade or mask; not allowing anyone or anything around him know exactly what’s going on in his mind. It is sometimes debated if he is actually insane or not, but in either respect—no one knows for certain. He can easily switch from loving another to loathing them; showing support only to allow another to fall. Vincent is your original mentality-breaker; sadly you might not know that until it’s far too late.
History:
Born to a single mother in what was once known as lower South America, Vincent grew up with less then most children his age. While his mother struggled to make ends meet in his early childhood; the boy was emitted into the working class when he could walk properly. Working in the same chemical factory as his own biological mother, the young child began to show signs of rapid brain growth. His natural absorption of words in the Spanish language began to triple the rate of an adolescent boy; quickly he began to catch on to linguistics, learning piece by piece from tourists and foreigners that spoke both English and Spanish. English quickly became his second language, a home language that he could use with those fitted to be ‘more educated’ and ‘luckier’ then himself.
As his intelligence and IQ began to formulate, or catch up with one another—Vincent appropriately began to tutor himself in all the spare time he could manage. While this caused tension in the two-person family, the bonds between them kept the ‘familia’ closer then ever. While Vincent’s mother grew proud of her son, there was an undying fear that Vincent would leaver her when the time came for bigger and better things. She helped fuel his education, buying books that Vincent could read (when her son couldn’t buy them himself) and simply talking to him in order to keep him sane. During this time, Vincent began to show signs of deteriorating sanity, or bipolar disorder; one second—he was completely jubilant, and the other; downtrodden, depressed, and verbally abusive towards himself and his precious studies. Speech, among other simplistic things; quelled the opposing sides, but Vincent struggled to create lasting bonds. Feeling different from other people, his developing brain had isolated him from any part of normal society. Valuing the time with his mother, it quickly became less and less as his teenage years took root.
Vincent and his mother lived in the slums for 16 long years, and during Vincent’s 16th year there had been a significant gap in communication between mother and son. As his mother began to grow unattached to her matured young boy, it became obvious she was interested in dating again. Picking up her free time with men. With the lack of communication in his life, the child began to show signs of hostile behavior in the workplace; as well as at home when he was alone. His bipolar attitude began to mutate, leaving him not only with two extremes—but multiple ones. It became unclear as to which extreme, or who he was; confusing the young man more so then anything else in the world. Isolation and neglect drew emotional and physical fatigue, his brain kept reeling; causing both insomnia and anxiety within his conscious body. The young man struggled with everyday life, watching as his mental barrier became thinner—and thinner, until it denigrated into nothing. No longer knowing who or what he was, the male dove into his studies and immersed himself in the world of logic, rather then the physical (illogical) realm.
However—the less human contact he had, the more hostile some consciences became. During one particular rough day of work; Vincent became ensnared in an intense fight. The physical fight ended, but the internal rage he felt did not subside, in a blank moment; he lit the entire factory on fire with a pair of matches and some extra stockpiled flammable chemicals in the back of production row number 9. The entire branch burned to the ground, with delayed response from the authorities and firemen; more then half of the inhabitants perished—including Vincent’s own mother who had been working on the upper floor at the time. While he did not remember the incident in his own mind (Vincent believed he had blacked out from the collision in his head) he was arrested on the spot after being physically dragged out of the burning building. Charged with both arson and murder, Vincent plead guilty to both crimes; using insanity as his leverage in the case. Due to being in a 'third world' country, he was held properly in jail –deemed too dangerous to be emitted into federal prison.
Instead, with bribing from the man himself (with what little money he had) Vincent was transferred into the stronghold of all nations. Placed in the best psych ward that the world could offer. It was there, during many long grueling years (and billions of pills, shots, and scans too) that Vincent perfected his trade. While under the haze of drugs, he could still grasp linguistics. He learned multiple languages from books and speech alike, seeming to favor any he could grab his hands on. He surpassed in whatever puzzles his medical doctors offered, and when he was deemed ‘non-hostile' he was given leeway to order books from the city itself. He learned under sedatives, shocking his peers at such a young age. He stayed for seven years, at the age of 24 he had gotten nationwide attention. Bailed out by a curious heir-less millionaire, strings were pulled in order to create him as a ‘sane patient’ released on good behavior. As long as he was on proper medication, Vincent was again allowed to disband from the ward and scope out this new land.
While under the legal care of the same man who had bailed him out, Vincent read the investment records of the elder. Learning of Pandora and the billion-dollar company that had once ravished it. Sickened, Vincent grew discontent with his adoptive-figure; until he was given the copied, edited notes of Grace Augustine. Intrigued by the woman’s genius, Vincent dedicated his life to education and finding the original copy of Grace’s written records on Pandora. Attending one of the best colleges money could buy (thanks to his current investor) Vincent was granted to work in the Genetic Code field, as well as the world of botanies (due to Grace’s novel’s influence on his life.) While attending the college, he was on and off medication; refusing to take it believing that it ‘disrupted his genius.’ When it became obvious that it did, the man refused treatment altogether; making the relationships with others difficult and rough. He observed people, became known as a ‘trickster.’ Saying one thing, meaning another. His smile, his human characteristics became so finely attuned that he could fake being in any conscious; any single emotion.
He tricked his way into coming off ‘completely cured,’ and in a way—he believed it himself. While he had bursts of the same flips, he did not once retort to violence. His ingenious though, as always, came to him as a doubled edged sword. His disvalue of human life, or any life at all was disheartening. Almost losing his license twice, he graduated at the top of his class; surpassing competition in his field in two years. Simply because of complications with peers, professors, and those he deemed unworthy to judge him or grade him. When the old millionaire eventually died, Vincent was on his own once more; and emitted himself into the prior program he once funded. Catching the eye of people, ironically, is what he did best (even if all Vincent ever wanted was to disappear) he was quickly chosen to lead a new expedition. Picking up where his ‘hero’ left off, but focusing on his talent in genetics. Asked to properly seek out the old data of the Avatar Program, destroy it; create it better and larger then before.
The Avatar 'Recreation' Program opened under his lead, and still is fueled that way today. Opening up the folder of genetics once more; Vincent busied himself with recreating Avatars for the scientific team that would purge through Pandora for the name of scientific study. While he holds no favor towards humans or Na’vi, he agreed and pulled the project up from the ground—simply because there was no other option or reason in his life. His work makes him steady, and while he still acts frightening around some staff; he is completely docile, supposedly in remission.
