For many years, the Order of Riders has existed in secret, protecting and helping the lands surrounding their base, the Rider's Keep. They became legendary to people, none knowing if they were truly real or nothing more than a rumor. Some sought out the Keep intentionally, others found it purely by chance. But those who did manage to find it were welcomed into the Order, if they bonded with a creature or not.
For a long time, things were peaceful. But a rift formed in the order. A group split away, becoming known as the Wing of Moonlight. He believed that the riders shouldn't be wasting their time helping people, but instead using their powers to seize control of the land. The council members tried to talk sense into them, reminding them that riders were there to protect the people, not rule them, but they would not listen, and turned their back on the Order.
Almost ten years passed, and no word came of him or the Wing of Moonlight. In that time, a great plague took hold of the Keep and most of the Order, both creature and rider, was wiped out. Only a few healthy young pairs were left. It was then that the Wing of Moonlight re-emerged, preparing to take control of the Order and through them, the land.
For years both sides built their forces and bolstered their ranks with potentials. Many skirmished occurred, but after a long while, the Wing of Moonlight marched on the Rider’s Keep. In the lands just outside their borders, the Order and the Wing met in one, final battle. The Order triumphed as the victors, leaving the few living Wing riders to flee into the forest.
Twenty years have passed since the end of the great plague, five since the Wing saw its end, and the Order of Riders is back on its feet again. With the Wing gone for good, the Order believed things would return to normal.
They were wrong. The people of Ethaia, Myriata, and Tialya were furious with their leaders for failing to defend them from the Wing and, in an attempt to calm the people, claimed that victory over the Wing was their doing, that the Order had merely lied to seem like heroes. The people, already suspicious of riders since the Wing's attacks, turned on the Order. Being a rider was swiftly outlawed and the kingdoms began to send out more and more Slayers to try and exterminate them. Despite this, the Order continues to do what they have done for years-they protect and help the people of the lands, whether they are liked or not.
The countries' rulers have seen the potential of the Riders. Each kingdom has been making bargains with the Order. If they join them, fight for them, they will protect them from the slayers of the other kingdoms. Each time, the Order has refused. But as the threat of slayers becomes more and more present, will the Order remain independent? Or will they join one of the kingdoms to protect themselves?
