As we continue working towards completing the site, we'll keep you up to speed with some new developments that can be found in this thread.


-Templates for character applications have been posted.
-Plot has been posted.
-Four tribes have been established. Summaries can be found in the boards below this one.
-Face Claim and Roles threads have been put up.


We will be working on over the next few days:

-Establishing an Encyclopedia for reference
-A useful link box on the sidebar
-Perhaps even updating the site with a music player!

A few clarifications have been made to our profile formats. Please take a look and update your bios accordingly, if needed.

There has been another additional update to the character profile format. Staff requests that all members take a look.

Starting today, the website is officially open! We will be working on evaluating profiles and hopefully getting some acceptances in before the night is over.

-Make sure to PLEASE read over the application template and follow all rules, as they have changed.

-Starting now, there is a secret word embedded into the rules to ensure that our members take the time and read them thoroughly. Upon the completion of your application, please PM ME the word. Do not put it in your profile. Your bio will not be evaluated until I receive your PM (And it's correct.....)

-Have fun. We look forward to approving our applicants and getting some writing underway and, most of all, introducing everyone to our wonderful Avatar role playing game.

-Starting as of right now, there is a ban on ALL MILITARY PERSONNEL. Given the nature of our plot, there is a limited number of security allowed to escort the scientific team to Pandora. We have reached our maximum of FOUR, so that department is closed until further notice.

-REMEMBER, if your application is finished, you need to PM AERYS (Aka me, for those who, you know, weren't aware of that) the secret word that has been broken down and scattered throughout the rules.

IN ADDITION: If you're a previous member with an already accepted application, and you're submitting more bios, you have to tell Silmaneero or myself that you're finished (Preferably in PM). We have enough on our plate without going through the application forum and perusing bios to see if they are completed or not.

-At this time, Sil and myself are instituting a five character limit per person. This isn't to cramp any creativity that anyone has, it's simply to curb the explosion of applications we've been getting, and to have everyone think twice about what type of character that they come up with. With time, this cap will raise, but seeing as the site is brand new, we would like to give any future players the opportunity to play one of the more sought after roles available on the board.

With the progression of the plot, as well, more character slots will open up, including positions off planet.

-Starting now, all secret words and any questions pertaining to applications (That you would like a staff member to answer privately) are to be sent to the account PL MAIN ACCOUNT, user ID "mainaccount". This will help keep our inboxes clear and keep everything organized. Do NOT send the secret word to either Silmaneero or myself. We won't read any applications from now on unless the word is sent to the designated account.


NOTE: If you have already sent me the word and your bio has yet to be reviewed, you do not qualify for this change.

Starting as of now, PL staff has established a QUALITY RULES thread that shall act as a guideline in regards to applications. We've already stated that this site is an intermediate to advanced RPG, but in case our stipulations were unclear, we've fleshed out what exactly we look for when reviewing bios.

In addition, I will be putting up an Activity Check this Friday, as well as start competitions for Characters and Members of the month! So keep an eye out for some changes over the next few days.

Just as a brief update and note for both new and old members-

-If you are applying for an Avatar Driver (AKA Humans with avatars) you need to specify in the character's history how they received funding for the trip and (If applicable) the avatar.

-ALSO: If, during the course of roleplay, your Na'vi happens to find a suitable mate, feel free to update your character's bio to include the name of his or her partner.


Some of you have been discussing possible conflict between the clans. This has definitely crossed the staffs' minds, so do take care to read over the bio of each tribe to see where they stand, as there may very well be some future discrepancies between each

-This weekend, I am going to be sorting our members into specific categories to help organize who has remained active and who is inactive. If you have responded to the most recent activity check, you will be moved to a specific Member Group. If you have not, you will be moved into another Member Group.

If two activity checks are missed, the staff reserves the right to delete the account.

NOTE: As is stated in the AC, we are not blind to the fact that things do come up and prevent people from logging onto the internet. If you come back and find that you have been moved into the inactive group, simply PM Sil or myself explaining the reason for your absence. If it is viable, and not simply negligence or a loss of interest, we'll be happy to move you over.

-Some more details have been added to the site, such as a NEWS side-table box and a SPOTLIGHT side-table box. Every so often we will update the news section with current events of the site, and every month we will hold site-wide contests to vote for your favorite character and member (And perhaps other categories, if we have enough participation) of the month!

Okay, so after discussing this amongst staff, we have decided to alter our applications slightly. We have lowered the word count for HISTORY and ROLE-PLAY SAMPLE. We understand that the bio process can be somewhat frustrating at times, so to make it easier we have also decided that you do not simply have to fill the template with just prose. To understand what I mean by this, read below.

Accentuating your bio with bullet points can be helpful if you'd like to simply highlight important events in a character's life, or noteworthy details in their description or personality. HOWEVER, this does not mean we simply want you to list...

-Smart
-Pretty
-Good at everything
-Witty

If you're going to do this, please expound upon these points. Tell us why your character is good at a, b, c, and d. Flesh it out.


Paradise Lost prides itself in being one of the few literate AVATAR RPGs out there, so help us uphold that honor by putting forth your best effort and creating a character with depth. Our goal is not to achieve a massive QUANTITY of roleplayers, but to create an atmosphere where intermediate to advanced WRITERS can gather to pursue our version of James Cameron's breathtaking vision.

-We have finally introduced our NEW TRIBE. The Tuyeteira are an arctic clan that reside deep within a snowy, mountainous valley on Pandora. For further information regarding the new tribe, check out the forum below this one.

-In addition, Silmaneero has posted more detailed information concerning the other four tribes of PL.

-Regarding the next activity check:

I won't be conducting another check until the end of February, as to allow some people who have been busy the past several weeks some time to get situated. Those who do not respond will be moved into their appropriate member groups, and if you missed the last check and did not notify the staff as to the reason of your absence, we do reserve the right to archive your bio and/or delete your account.

Those who do not respond to the checks will not be eligible for MoTM/CoTM or any other competitions.

Note: If you joined after the last check, you will not be penalized.

-I'd like to do an update to the Roles of Paradise Lost thread, but some help would be greatly appreciated. If you've recently submitted an application (And don't see your name on the cast list) and have been accepted, please PM Aerys with the name of your character and whether or not it's human/which tribe it belongs to if it's Na'vi.

I apologize for this--we should have kept on top of it, but school and work and such have prevented that.

-NOTE:

If you see in the Roles of PL that a certain list is filled up, understand that this does not mean we're enacting a ban on that particular group. A lot of said players have become inactive, in any case, so we'll be doing a thorough cleaning out with the next check and are ALWAYS willing to accept more of EACH character.

-Activity Check is open. Please respond within two weeks. The post can be found in the "Laws" board.

-Roles of PL has been UPDATED. We will do another update after the check to hopefully weed out a few people who have become inactive.

-New thread is coming up soon! Keep an eye out for an interesting plot opening up between the tribes, and perhaps a hint of RDA activity.....

It's been awhile since we've had an update. The Activity Check has ended and as a result, several things have been changed:

1. Member groups - Essentially, we have established two core member groups, and a lesser third

-Active people/writers
-Not so active people/writers
-New/Inactive (Missed AC/Self-proclaimed inactive user)


Each of these groups is color coded: the green is our core group of writers who have proven themselves to be loyal and active participants both OOC and IC. The blue is for those who have responded to their first check and show promise, and white is the group that contains inactive people or new members.

Some of you may note that even though you responded to two checks, you have not been moved into the higher group. This is because I don't particularly feel you actually read what I wrote in the Activity Check itself. Don't simply assume that by signing on one day a month and marking that you're active is going to fool us. I know who's been contributing to the board and who hasn't.


2. If you didn't respond to this month's activity check, your bio (if you have one) has been archived and your personal board deleted. Most of those who didn't respond haven't been active, so if you come back and decide you want to write again, you need to explain your absence to Silmaneero and myself.


3. We have deleted all inactive members (IE those who haven't responded to either check). It's simple, guys. If you know you're going to be away, you contact the staff and tell us. We prefer to keep an accurate list of who is actually coming and participating on the board as opposed to accumulating a hundred names when only roughly twenty are truly active.

Again, if you've been deleted and want to come back, make the name again and actually BE active this time.


4. VOTING FOR MEMBER AND CHARACTER OF THE MONTH IS OPEN. Please PM your choices to AERYS (Pick two for each, preferably three, and if we get enough people to participate this month we'll make polls. If not, Sil and I will select who we feel deserves it.)
